Siena retains the charm of a medieval city. Its historic center has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. To increase the interest of the Abbey, the story of the hermit - the noble knight Galgano Guidotti - who later became a saint, and the hermitage of Montesiepi, inside which the mystery of Excalibur is preserved, the sword that San Galgano stuck in the rock when he decided to leave his noble life.

Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore
Between the Crete Senesi and the green of the olive trees and woods, the Abbey of Monte Oliveto is an oasis of peace. Founded over seven hundred years ago, it hosts an industrious community of Benedictine monks with typical white robes, a symbol of devotion to the Holy Virgin Mary.
A very impressive complex from an architectural point of view. The cloister is one of the marvels of the abbey with a cycle of frescoes on the life of St. Benedict painted by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma.
To see: the church, the monumental library and the refectory. It is possible to take part in the liturgical celebrations and listen to the ancient Gregorian chants, still in use by the Olivetan monks.

Montalcino and Val d’Orcia
Immersed in the magnificant landscape of the Val d'Orcia Natural Park, Montalcino is a town that has remained virtually intact since the 16th century. In its vineyards one of the most prestigious red wines of Tuscany is produced: Brunello.
About 20 km from Montalcino is Pienza, a true architectural jewel. Conceived as the "ideal city" of the Renaissance, it was created at the instruction of the Sienese nobleman Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who later became Pope Pius II. The project was carried out by Rossellino, under the guidance of the great humanist Leon Battista Alberti (he was responsible for the facade of Santa Maria Novella in Florence). In just 3 years a complex of beautiful and harmonious buildings were built.
The Middle Ages and the Renaissance meet in Montepulciano, a fascinating city in the Val d’Orcia, where the film New Moon, a sequel to the Twilight vampire saga, was filmed. Montepulciano, which is located about 30 km from Montalcino, is the production area of another excellent red wine, Nobile di Montepulciano.
